JAMB creates rogue website to combat examination malpractice

A new website has been created by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Registrar (JAMB) to curb the incessant examination malpractice by candidates.

JAMB’s registrar, Ishaq Oloyede on Thursday, April 10, said the examination body is taking steps to apprehend candidates who plan to cheat during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mock examination.

Speaking to journalists at a CBT centre in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory while monitoring the mock exam, Oloyede said the decoy website is aimed at catching candidates who cheat during the examination.

Olyede said, “We need to let the students know that the best way to pass the examination, UTME in particular, is to study. We are aware of some rogue websites asking people to come and pay so that they can help. It cannot work. We have also opened our own rogue website. As of this morning, about 180 students have paid.

“So those students, because to attempt to cheat is already an infraction. So those who paid into that account, looking for questions, we are going to deal firmly with them.

“In many of the institutions, UTME is not a school-based examination. We register students individually. That is why we tell the students not to give out their registration numbers. Do not register by proxy,” he said.

Oloyede urged candidates never to give their registration number to anybody or school. He said schools derive joy in bragging with good results from candidates who are not their students.

Stating that the examination body was ready to cancel results of individuals or schools who engage in malpractice, Oloyede said, “We have about 180 of them. And we are going to deal with them firmly. We are going to cancel their results, both UTME and DE.”
