The Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom, His Eminence Dr Eberechukwu Oji has revealed that the Arochukwu Traditional Council and Nzuko Arochukwu Worldwide are currently working out a road map for the massive development of Arochukwu Town.
To this end, the road map includes making the community a tourism destination, an industrial zone, an economic hub and a university town.
The monarch made this known at the 2nd edition of the global interactive session of all Aros on Zoom platform called Ububo Eze Aro n’Umu Aro.
The session, which lasted for over 2 hours, held on Sunday, 1st September 2024 had over 375 participants in attendance who logged in from different countries of the world.
In one of his responses to questions from the audience, he said “We are hoping that in the nearest future, from January to December, something very interesting would be happening in Arochukwu, making it a tourism destination and as such, visitors would always flood Arochukwu every month, all year round.
Eze Dr Eberechukwu Oji also said, “I have said it times without number that Aro has lost its position as a legacy Kingdom, but one of my key plans is to restore the glory of Arochukwu. The Eze Aro Stool shall be number one in Abia State, in Ala Igbo, and in Nigeria, in Africa and the world. If this Stool is respected across the globe, it will ensure that umu Aro are respected too, and they can hold their head high and be proud of their heritage.
“Since January, our efforts have been to present Aro in the best light. Anyone who has been reading the news, listening to the radio or watching the telly will know that this is our time. The time of Aro has come. Aro has come out of it’s paralysis and has started getting accolades.
“Our next step is to ensure there is peace in Aro. It’s something we must do. Aro, we expect, will become a tourism destination, an economic hub, and an industrial zone. There are small steps we have been taking to ensure that anyone who thinks of Aro does that with gladness of heart. Our brother is the head of the government in Abia State.
“As you can see, the Okobo road project started this year. The Arochukwu Ohafia road has also been commenced. There are those who will be asking, is it just Aro that is getting two roads at the same time? But the time of Aro has come. Every community has its time and it’s season, and it’s our time and season now. In fact, there are still issues we are discussing with the Governor right now, because as we say, a man who climbs the iroko tree must fetch all the firewood he is capable of, because you don’t climb the iroko every day. We must encourage our brother to ensure that whatever Aro deserves comes to Aro.
“We have also heard that the South Eastern University is coming to Aro. It’s up to us to see that it happens. It’s up to us to see that our land becomes a university town. This means there could be several universities in Aro, and people from everywhere, even abroad can come to Aro to school”, he concluded.
