
A Catholic priest, Reverend Father Joseph Enyinaya, has been arrested for allegedly shooting a young boy dead inside St. Columbus Catholic Church, Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.
The spokesman of the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrest of the Catholic priest to The Nation on Thursday.
According to earlier information, Rev. Father Enyinaya shot the boy, whose identity was yet to be released as at press time, for throwing fireworks during the crossover service within the premises of the church on December 31, 2024.
Okoye said: “The priest has been arrested, and the body of the boy has been recovered and deposited at Atta Ikeduru Mortuary.”
He said a detailed investigation had begun, adding: “The police investigation is expected to shed more light on the events leading up to the incident.”
