The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has served politicians in Edo State, especially those of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), a shock treatment.
In the final list of candidates for the 2023 general elections the INEC reconfirmed that the candidates of the PDP are those from the Legacy PDP led by the South – South Vice Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Osi Orbih.
The confirmation of the group, known as the Legacy PDP candidates as the real flagbearers of the party is in line with court order which the new PDP led by Governor Godwin Obaseki misinterpreted to claim that it was in their favour.
With this situation the issue of which group is the authentic in Edo State PDP has been finally laid to rest.
Some of the candidates whose names have were confirmed include Mike Onolememen as the Edo Central senatorial candidate of the PDP; Omoregie Ogbeide Ihama as the Edo South senatorial candidate of the PDP; Pascal Ugbome as the Edo North senatorial candidate of the PDP and Elizabeth Ativie as LP candidate for the Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode federal constituency.
