The management of Jungle Journalist Media Limited, publishers of Jungle-Journalist.Com and Jungle Journalist Magazine have stated that Benin City, Edo State is among the cities listed as having a Chinese police station in the world.

Jungle Journalist Media Limited was reacting to a press statement by the Edo State Police Command, stating that their publication was they stand by their publication is ‘false and untrue’.

According to Mr ThankGod Ofoelue, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Jungle Journalist Media Limited, the claims that Edo State is listed among 110 cities with Chinese police stations is taken from a September 2022 publication of Safeguard Defenders, a human rights NGO founded in late 2016 and based in Madrid, Spain.

A 21 page, carefully worded document titled “110 Overseas: Chinese Transnational Policing Gone Wild” drew up the list, with
Benin City, Edo Nigeria, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Maseru, Lesotho as the only three African countries with these police stations.

Safeguard Defenders in its introduction, described the document thus “110 Overseas – Chinese Transnational Policing Gone Wild (2022) investigates a single Chinese police hunt for “lower-value” targets abroad. Rather than using legal forms of international cooperation, they resort to pressuring targets to return, in fact some 230,000 people for a little over year. Tied to this, a new law this year will establish full extraterritorial powers for China.”

As a matter of fact, the address and telephone numbers of the location is s listed on the document.

The Benin City address is given as:

Yongxing Steel Co. Ltd, Ogua Community, off Sapele Road By Pass, Pipeline Road, Benin City, Edo State Nigeria.

Also listed are phone numbers, which incidentally, were switched off when our correspondent tried to call them.

Below are the phone numbers:

08156566666 and 08156658888.

Further speaking, Jungle Journalist Media Limited said “We hold the Nigerian Police in very high esteem, in its  professionalism in the discharge of duties, especially in areas of investigations and extra risks undertaken by these noble men and women to secure and protect our families’, lives, businesses and properties every day of every year.

“We are happy at the prompt response of the Nigerian Police, Edo State chapter to our publication, since our goal is not to ridicule the Nigerian Police, but to play our role as the watchdogs of society by pointing out what could be adjudged as an anomaly in our national space as a sovereign nation.

“We are certain that further research on the information provided by the Safeguard Defenders will definitely unravel more regarding the issues at hand”.
