The Statement read in part, “We congratulate our convener, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu and entire south east lawmakers for sponsoring this key legislation. Their collective effort and commitment in ensuring that the bill was reintroduced and passed by the 10th National Assembly is laudable .

“We also commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the SEDC bill into law. In various ways Mr President has proven his love for the people of the southeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria and we’re grateful. The objective of the Act is in line with the core aim of PISE-P which is fostering dialogue and understanding, bridging gaps, dispel misunderstandings, and conflict resolution. We are optimistic that the commission when established will help in rebuilding the region and bring about much needed reconciliation, peace and development.

“This law will serve as a catalyst for transformative development, fostering economic growth, and promoting lasting peace in the region.
