
Enugu State has been named the Best in Digital Technology Human Capital Development in Nigeria following the conclusion of the 12th National Council on Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy (NCCIDE).
The event took place from Monday, December 2 to Friday, December 6, 2024, at the NNAM Hall Complex and Hotel Makurdi, Benue State.
Themed “Accelerating the Adoption of Artificial Intelligence Through Policy and Innovation for Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” the gathering attracted policymakers, industry experts, and stakeholders from across the nation to discuss technology’s evolving role in national development.

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah’s continued efforts in advancing the digital technology sector, particularly in cultivating a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation across various governance and economic sectors, were widely recognized. The achievement reflects the state’s commitment to building a dynamic and proficient digital workforce, a crucial pillar for sustainable growth in the digital era.
The recognition of Enugu’s excellence in Digital Technology Human Capital Development was celebrated by delegates and experts alike, affirming the state government’s determination to develop a vibrant workforce capable of leveraging digital innovations.
Receiving the award on behalf of the State governor, the Enugu State Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Dr. Prince Lawrence Ezeh, PhD, FNSE stated that Governor Mbah has made significant strides in ensuring Enugu State is equipped to engage with emerging technologies while driving innovation across various sectors, including governance, health, business, industrialization, trade, education, and agriculture.

“As the global landscape increasingly relies on artificial intelligence and other digital tools, Governor Mbah proactive approach stands as an exemplary model for other Nigerian states”, Dr. Ezeh said, while highlighting the State’s commitment to digital transformation and its goal of creating an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and innovation.
“Our governor’s commitment to digital transformation is steadfast,” Dr. Ezeh said, adding, “He believes that the future of Enugu lies in our ability to harness technology to create new opportunities, improve lives, and build a sustainable economy.”

He further explained that Governor Mbah’s administration is pursuing a multi-dimensional approach to digital innovation, including investing in education and training for the youth, fostering partnerships with private-sector players, and integrating digital solutions in critical areas such as healthcare and agriculture.
“The governor is determined to enact a revolutionary transformation across all sectors simultaneously,” Dr. Ezeh emphasized. “We are not simply talking about digital technology in isolation; we are ensuring that it becomes an integral part of governance and economic activities.”
