Nigerian courts suffering from poor knowledge of the law —Nnamdi Kanu says, confront judge

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has lamented that courts in Nigeria have poor knowledge of the law.

He stated this on Monday while protesting against Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court during the resumed hearing of his case

Recall that Nyako adjourned the trial of Kanu indefinitely on Monday.

The judge had earlier refused herself from the case after Kanu asked her to step down from his trial because he lacked confidence in her ability.

But Chief Judge John Tsoho returned the case file to Nyako to continue the trial.

However, on Monday, Kanu challenged Nyako to either restore his bail conditions or order his release from detention.

The IPOB leader noted that Nyako cannot review, reopen or revisit a matter she recused herself from because she lacked jurisdiction.

Kanu argued that Nigerian law prohibits the chief judge from telling a judge what to do.

Kanu said: “Listen, this is the law of Nigeria. The prosecution and this court don’t know the law. That is a fact.

“Yes, poor knowledge of the law is killing Nigeria. Poor knowledge of the law; they don’t know the law.

“This is a federal gazetted law of Nigeria that says here that the chief judge of Nigeria cannot tell a judge what to do. It’s here, it’s your law. Just obey it.

“That is why I do what I do. I agitate for Biafra. I agitate for Biafra. It’s my right to agitate, it’s my right. They turned it from treasonable felony, now to terrorism.”
