The leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) have warned about the dire consequences of continuously keeping dead bodies in mortuaries across Igbo land.

According to the organization, “We are worried over the continued embalment and keeping of dead bodies in mortuaries while their spirits continue hovering and wandering around without rest because they were not buried or committed to Mother Earth.

Comrade Uchenna Madu, who is the Leader of MASSOB, in a statement he signed, said further, “The wandering and restless spirits of unburied dead bodies in mortuaries are continuously possessing the younger people, leading and influencing them into all manners of criminality, evil and wicked acts without fear of the dire consequences of their actions.

“These spiritual influences have erased their godly consciences and replaced them with all kinds of immorality, lust for bloodshed, lust for wealth and mundane living.

“This raging possession of Igbo Youths and young men has created a strong urge to get quick wealth without meaningful work or trading.

“The taproot of all criminal tendencies, evil and wicked activities in the lives of the youths – young men and women in our society is the possession and influence of the spirits of unburied dead bodies in mortuaries.

“MASSOB urges church leaders to ban bringing in dead bodies in casket into the church that’s presumed to be a holy temple.
The entrance of dead bodies in a casket inside the house of God corrupts the holiness of the church.

“The spirit of a dead person can never rest until it is buried.
It is an abomination in Igbo traditional culture to keep a dead body for more than four Igbo market days.

“MASSOB urges Igbo traditional and religious leaders, including governors, to ban this trend of keeping dead bodies in mortuaries.

“We appeal to our Governors to either ban or regulate the activities of mortuaries and mortuary staff who have turned the job into a human parts harvesting venture thereby engaging in all manner of abominations and provoking the wrath of the dead on the living”, he stated.
