When Yahoo Boy Mocks Heaven: Hacker Says He Stole $1m from Winners Chapel

A storm of shock and anger is sweeping through Nigeria after a self-styled Lagos hacker, describing himself as an “agbero turned unicorn developer,” openly bragged in a viral video that he defrauded Bishop David Oyedepo’s Winners Chapel of nearly $1 million.

The video, which has spread like wildfire on social media, shows the man—unapologetic and cocky—boasting about his cyber exploits since 2002. He claimed to have mastered the dark art of “Yahoo scams,” using cloned Gmail and banking portals to harvest sensitive details from unsuspecting victims.

“It’s just a program… I build the site, then anything you enter redirects to me,” he bragged, flashing a smile that mocked both his victims and the law.

According to his own confession, Winners Chapel was one of his biggest scores. He boasted of siphoning almost $1 million from the global megachurch, adding that his syndicate has used similar tricks against more than 30 major institutions.

The revelations have triggered outrage online and offline. How, Nigerians are asking, could one of the largest churches in Africa, with vast financial networks and a global footprint, be so vulnerable?

Cybersecurity experts who spoke to Jungle-Journalist.Com warn that the confession underscores Nigeria’s worsening cybercrime epidemic, where fraudsters now openly mock society and institutions. “This is not just a crime—it’s a national embarrassment,” one analyst noted.

For many Nigerians, however, the scandal is more than about data breaches. It is about trust. A church built on faith, discipline, and wealth has been dragged into the mud of cyber fraud by a street hacker who dared to beat the system—and brag about it.

So far, Winners Chapel has not issued an official statement. But the silence has only fueled speculation and anger, with critics insisting this should be a wake-up call for religious and financial institutions to tighten their digital defences before cyber-predators strike again.
