The Enugu State Chapter, of the African Democratic Congress ADC condemns Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party described the move as a dangerous alignment that threatens Enugu’s political independence and economic stability.
In a statement signed by Hon. David C. Ani, the party’s Publicity Secretary, ADC Enugu said the defection confirms fears that the governor has joined forces intent on institutionalizing poverty and hardship in the state. The statement also called on citizens, civil society groups, and traditional institutions to demand transparency and accountability in the management of state resources.
ADC Condemns Mbah Defection Again Over Federal Influence
ADC Enugu highlighted concerns over APC-aligned federal policies in the state, noting that aggressive taxation and revenue outsourcing mirror “monopolistic control previously associated with Lagos State.” The party warned that outsourcing Enugu’s revenue administration to operators linked to Lagos and the federal center represents a clear surrender of fiscal autonomy, risking the impoverishment of citizens and undermining accountability.
“What is incontestable,” ADC said, “is the lived experience of Enugu residents — rising taxes, sharper economic hardship, and a diminishing capacity of the state to independently chart its development.”
The party reaffirmed its commitment to a people-centered alternative that protects Enugu’s autonomy, safeguards livelihoods, and resists the privatization of public resources.
Calls for Accountability and Transparency
The ADC noted that recent Canadian court reporting had referenced Nigeria’s major political parties, including the APC, in controversial contexts that drew wide public concern. While the Federal Government and the parties have issued denials, ADC Enugu insisted the situation underscores the need for vigilance and transparency in Enugu’s political realignments.
> “We reject any attempt to normalize or whitewash actions that transfer control of our state’s resources and policy direction to external operators,” the statement read. “Our people deserve clear answers about who is managing state revenues, on what terms, and with what legal and constitutional mandate.”
ADC Enugu urged legal institutions, human-rights monitors, media, and citizens to closely follow developments around recent Canadian court reporting concerning political parties and to ensure that judicial or administrative findings are made publicly accessible.
“We insist that government agents and the governor provide full clarity on who manages state revenues, on what terms, and with what legal and constitutional mandate,” the statement read.
The party concluded by reaffirming its role as a progressive opposition, committed to social justice, economic opportunity, and accountable governance for all residents of Enugu State.
“ADC condemns Mbah’s defection and will continue to champion governance that prioritizes the welfare of the people over partisan interest or external patronage,” Hon. Ani concluded.
