Enugu, Nigeria — The political landscape in Enugu State has shifted dramatically as over one hundred leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former State Chairman Chief A.C. Udeh, ex-Woman Leader Lolo Nwankwo, and more than ten former local government executives, have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Recall that as was reported by Jungle-Journalist.Com, the ADC had condemned the defection of Dr Peter Obi and the Enugu State Government executive earlier in the month.

The large-scale defection was formalized during the ADC Enugu Stakeholders’ Meeting at the party’s State Secretariat, where key figures and grassroots mobilizers gathered to review progress and strategize for the 2027 general elections.

Sources within the party said the move followed weeks of turmoil in the APC after Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s defection to the ruling party — a shift that deepened factional rivalries. Former APC Chairman Barr. Ugochukwu Agballa is also reportedly considering a move to the ADC alongside his loyalists.

Political observers describe the development as a major realignment that could reshape Enugu’s political equation ahead of 2027.

At the meeting, the ADC announced the launch of a statewide membership registration exercise across all wards to rebuild its grassroots base. Registration centers are to open immediately to accommodate new and returning members.

In a communiqué issued afterward, the ADC warned coalition partners and prospective members against “sitting on the fence.”

“No one can take part in our congresses or internal activities without formally resigning from their former party,” the statement read. “The rule is clear — you must first join the ADC officially.”

The leadership also dismissed talk of harmonization with non-members, calling such discussions premature and reaffirming its commitment to internal discipline and transparency.

The defection of over 100 APC stalwarts was met with jubilation as ADC executives warmly welcomed the newcomers. Chief Udeh and Lolo Nwankwo pledged loyalty to the ADC and vowed to strengthen its grassroots appeal.

Analysts regard the move as one of Enugu’s most significant political shifts in recent years, with the ADC increasingly seen as a “third force” attracting disillusioned politicians from both the APC and PDP.

ADC leaders emphasized that the party is entering a “season of political cultivation” — a phase focused on unity, commitment, and strategic preparation for 2027. With the quality of new entrants and renewed focus, they said, the ADC is poised to challenge the status quo and offer Enugu voters a credible alternative.
