The Abia State Government says the three general hospitals being renovated in the three Senatorial zones of the state will be ready before the end of this month.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Government House, Umuahia, after this week’s State Executive Council meeting chaired by the Governor, Dr. Alex Otti.
Kanu said that the hospitals would be fully equipped to provide qualitative healthcare for the people, adding that nurses and other medical personnel that would work at the health institutions are undergoing training.
The Commissioner stated that as part of the ongoing reforms in the education sector, reaccreditation of private schools in the State would soon commence.
According to him, an enforcement team has been set up to ensure that minimum standards are met in the schools adding that the essence is to ensure Abia school children get the best of education.
He further disclosed that Science teachers who transferred their services to the Ministry of Education were being redeployed to public schools.
On Aba rejuvenation, the Commissioner said that a lot of work was going on including road reconstruction, all designed to enhance the State’s rating in the ease of doing business index.
He made public that the long-abandoned Enyimba Hotel would soon be transformed into a Five-Star Hotel, stressing that a lot of investors have indicated interest in partnering with the government in that regard.
He said that the Taskforce on Waste Disposal has acquired extra 22 buckets to aid in the evacuation of refuse in Aba and Umuahia.
He also used the medium to appreciate some Aba residents who have donated refuse buckets to the government while appealing to those in Umuahia to follow suit.
The Commissioner also disclosed that the State Executive Council resolved that Abia State would hold week-long activities to commemorate this year’s Abia Day celebration.
