Following a similar move by the Imo State Government earlier this year, the Edo State Government has rolled out sweeping reforms aimed at strengthening stability, consistency, and quality learning across schools in the state.
According to a report by Jungle-Journalist.Com, the ne policies, announced by the Ministry of Education, will take effect from the 2025/2026 academic session and cover three key areas:
- Textbook Reuse Policy:
Approved textbooks will remain in use for at least four years before review, while younger siblings can reuse books already purchased by older ones. - Graduation Ceremony Guidelines:
Graduation parties are now strictly reserved for pupils completing Basic Education (Primary 1–JSS 3) and Senior Secondary 3 (SSS 3). Even at these levels, only modest celebrations are allowed, with prom parties prohibited. Nursery/kindergarten and primary 6 pupils will no longer be permitted to hold graduation ceremonies or parties. - Mandatory Entrepreneurship Skills Training for JSS 3 Students:
All JSS 3 students must undergo compulsory entrepreneurship skills training before graduation. From 2025/2026, each JSS 3 graduate will be issued two certificates — the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and a Skills Acquisition Certificate in their chosen trade subject.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to producing students who are not only academically sound but also practically skilled to thrive in today’s competitive world.
