The coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied reports that it has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued Thursday in Abuja, a prominent member of the coalition, Salihu Moh. Lukman, dismissed the claims circulating in some media outlets as “misleading and false.”
Lukman, a former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-director General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), also refuted reports suggesting that he had been appointed to lead the secretariat of the emerging coalition.
“The public should disregard the story as it is completely false. No such decision has been taken,” he said.
He further clarified: “Also false is the report that the coalition has adopted the ADC at its meeting of Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
“The truth is negotiations among all the coalition leaders are progressing very well, and final decisions about political platforms for the 2027 election will be taken soon.”
Lukman warned against efforts by what he described as “mischief makers” to plant divisive stories in the media.
His words: “Unfortunately, there appears to be some mischief makers promoting and planting stories in the media with the clear aim of sowing seeds of discord among coalition leaders.
“The public and the media should please disregard all these mischievous stories.”
The coalition, which reportedly includes key opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai, has been in talks aimed at forming a formidable alliance to challenge the ruling APC in the next general elections.
