The Abia State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has alerted the public that the ban on e-ticketing and other forms of illegal revenue collection is still in force.
A statement signed by Peacebe Ukaegbu, AIRS Executive Director, expressed dismay that some fake revenue agents had entered the streets of Umuahia and Aba, claiming to have been authorised by the state government to resume collection of e-tickets and other unauthorised taxes from Abians.
The statement warned that the suspension of such unapproved activities was still in force and had not been lifted until further notice from the government. Residents of the two cities were further advised against paying any levy to fraudulent individuals.
The warning may not be unconnected with complaints by some motorists and traders in Umuahia and Aba that some of the earlier dislodged touts are trying to stage a comeback, with alleged claims that they had been ‘reformed’ by the government.
