Human rights activist and Democracy Observer General, Dr Patrick Osagie Eholor has tasked the Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun to take the war on cultism serious in Edo State by appointing Commisioners of Police like Solomon Arase to the state.
Eholor in a Facebook Post argued that the current crop of CPs being sent to the State are usually from the North and do not care about the safety of lives and property in the state. He said a core southerner, especially one of Edo origin is very likely to take the war serious, knowing that the lives and futures involved are his kinsmen and must be protected. He gave instance of former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, and how he arrested the situation.
He said “I remember when Solomon Arase was Police I.G. He sent some special squad to Benin and arrested all the heads of cult groups then. He even went to Government House to arrest some government officials.
“Detailed some police men in state CID. He was able to do that because he understood the terrain. He ordered that the killing must stop, and it stopped.
“The northern police men don’t care if we die and perish. Their only interest is make money from Edo State people. That is the reason they don’t want to be transferred away from state so long this land issue and cultism and yahoo boys is happening. This nonsense have to stop, it is time we the people police the police.
