
A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and retired Lieutenant General, Jeremiah Timbut Useni, has passed away following a prolonged illness. He died on Thursday, January 23, 2025, according to family sources.
In a statement issued by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the death of General Useni was described as a great loss to the Nigerian Armed Forces, the people of Plateau State, and the nation at large. Governor Mutfwang expressed deep condolences, remembering Useni’s exceptional leadership and his significant contributions to Nigeria’s security and political development.
Useni served in various important military and political roles during his distinguished career, including as Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, Minister of Transport, and later as Minister of the FCT. After retiring from the military, he ventured into politics, where he became the Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and served as a Senator for Plateau South Senatorial District from 2015 to 2019 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Mutfwang praised Useni for his tireless commitment to promoting peace and security, particularly in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State. He highlighted Useni’s contributions to national unity, his compassion, and his efforts to improve the welfare of others.
