A people-centred group in Owan Local Government Area of Edo State, the Owan Concerned Citizens have warned against planned imposition of candidates who are not approved by the populace in the selection of commisioner nominees in Edo State. The group in a Press Statement signed by its leader, Comrade Ohioze Ikhide said it has uncovered a sinister plan by a few persons who are trying to use the Deputy Governor’s Office for their heinous plans.
They said the Edo State Governor in his wisdom has said leaders should nominate people from the area to represent 3 males and 2 females. Dates were fixed for the submission of credentials and screening, headed by Prof. Agbonlahor, with reports duly signed and sent to Mr Governor for appointment, as was done for the SSAs and SAs from the grass root.
“All these were done in principles and the understanding of the leaders”, they said.
“Why are names now filtering into the already made list and are been changed using persons, in the Deputy Governor’s Office to perpetrate this wicked act? Let us unite to fight this cankerworm that want to eat up the polity of our land by bringing the wrong persons into the system by the means of ‘na my pinkin syndrome’.
We are bringing these issues to leaders concerned to act accordingly in order for them not destroy the good working relationship the people have with their lenders, the group stated.
“This is the set time to arise and bring development to our Motherland by joining hands with our dear Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki to actualize the Edo Dream.
“But how can we do this? This is a question that desires an answer.
We must collaborate with the result-oriented and people-centered government.
“We must say bye bye to politics of Self-Centtredness and it must be my Son/Daughter mentality.
We must work together in truism.
“We must let people who are the most fit for any position to have it.
We must resist imposition of persons who do not live in Nigeria or work in Nigeria, live in Edo State or their local government areas. We must fight to ensure that the will of the generality of our people, not a few who believe they can put the people in their pockets prevail”.
The group observed that a particular elder statesman had sent his daughter’s name for approval, believing that the Deputy Governor will help him make his daughter a commisioner.
Speaking on the development, the Democracy Observer-General, Chief Patrick Eholor said “But his daughter’s name is not among the original names in the people’s list, but he wants the Deputy Governor to be her godfather.
“I believe so much in the governor and know that he hates godfatherism and will not allow this to stand. I also believe in the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu who is first and foremost, a civil rights activist like myself.
I believe he is not going to allow this to stand.
“I have made enquiries and confirmed that this is true so I appeal to the Governor, Deputy Governor, my dear brother, Barrister Osarodion Ogie to weigh into the matter. I also want to say kudos to the Chief of Staff, Osaigbovo Iyoha”.
