2023: Enugu Group picks Chief SNC Nwagu for governor, solicits support from all stakeholders

Amidst growing calls for youth involvement in governance, an Enugu based journalist, Johnpaul Anih has declared interest to represent Nkanu West Constituency in the forthcoming 2023 general elections under the platform of the ruling People’s Democratic party, PDP.

Johnpaul Anih who has within his shortest time in government awarded scholarships to some indigent secondary school students in Nkanu West Local Government, cleared WAEC and NECO fees of students, attracted solar powered boreholes in different communities in his council area after 11 years of failed attempt by successive governments, is evidently loved by his people.

In a statement shortly after picking his forms, Johnpaul Anih said he may not be the best or the most qualified for the job, but his track records within his shortest time in government, sets him apart.

“For weeks now, my people have been calling on me to declare interest to contest for Member of Enugu State House of Assembly in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

I had initially resisted the call because of the huge financial implication but some of my friends to include, Kelvin Onovo, went as far as creating an account to source for funds so that I could get the party nomination form”.

“Honestly, that singular action left me totally emotional and has spurred me to consider their calls to serve. The support is overwhelming and the acceptance is massive.
Many thanks to all those who believe in me and have contributed to this project. May God reward you in million folds and may the bell of joy continue to resound in your various homes”.

He further added “Let it be on record therefore, that I have accepted your request to offer myself to represent Nkanu West in Enugu State House of Assembly as I look forward to your continued prayers and support”.

“This is our project and on that we cannot afford to disappoint.
Umunnem Ndi Nkanu West, I assure you one thing which is “QUALITY and ACCOUNTABLE REPRESENTATION”.

“Together, we can choose a NEW path.
Together, we can set a BOLD agenda.
Together, we can deliver for ourselves a DIFFERENT outcome.

“I’m here today because I want what is best for my people.
We have no godfathers. We are just ordinary people who want a future that is very different from the sad reality of broken promises and unfulfilled potential for too long now, but we know that with your support we can bring about the real progress in our Constituency.

“To accomplish this, however, every citizen aged 18 years and above must obtain his or her Permanent Voter Card (PVC) and vote in the 2023 elections.

“Fellow youths, the time to sit on the fence is past !

“I thank the Executive Governor of Enugu State and our beloved father, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, for offering me opportunity in his government which has given me the clue on the needs to participate in government and to my family members to include; my lovely and ever supportive mother, who always challenges me to be the best man I can be and all those working round the clock to see that we succeed.

“Friends, as I embark on my aspiration to represent the great people of Nkanu West Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, I come to you in humility, seeking your prayers and support.

“I may not be the best or the most qualified for this job, but my commitment, loyalty, passion and struggle to putting smiles on the faces of our people, I believe, sets me apart.

“My track records within this shortest time in government is a pointer to the fact that I can do more if given bigger opportunity and it is the reason I’m canvassing to become the flag-bearer of our party in the next election if the delegates finds me worthy.

“Nkanu West State Constituency has been represented by 3 different individuals since return of democracy in 1999, I would build on the gains made by them, if elected.

“Conclusively, my dream will go to naught without you but with your support and prayers, victory is at sight”.
