The Enugu State Internal Revenue Service (ESIRS) under the Chairmanship of Emmanuel Ekene Nnamani on Wednesday 29th May, 2024 announced that the state government would begin enforcement of the payment of Land Use Charge.
The chairman, who spoke at a press conference in his office, said the charges concern all property owners including residential buildings and ancestral homes in various communities.
He added that the agency has embarked on public sensitization aimed at enlightening the people so as to help the ESIRS in revenue generation and growth of Enugu State.
“From 1st June this year, we will start enforcement of payment of the charges by residents already captured in the metropolises and communities.”
The chairman mentioned the assiduous effort of the sector to meet up with the developmental plans laid down to take the state to another level and equally stated that the land use charge campaign plays a significant role in the actualization of these plans.
He said that ESIRS has identified 800,000 properties in the state which is made possible with the Geographic Information System (GIS) recently introduced to the service.
After encouraging property owners including ancestral home owners to key into this plan, he went further to explain that the particular amount to be paid as depends on the value of the land(per plot basis) and its location and not on face value or owner.
The ESIRS Chairman concluded the session with a plea, motivating those concerned to help the government through obedience to this notice before the enforcement starts, adding both parties would’ve done their part towards the development of Enugu State.
