
… Had donated $5000 worth of medical books to institution yearly since 2011, vows to do more
An Arizona, US-based medical doctor, Prince Boris Chukwuemeka Oji MD/PhD has donated medical books worth $5200 (7.8 million naira) to the medical library of the Abia State University, ABSU.
According to information, the medical doctor is presently the first black Chief of Medicine/Chairman, Department of Medicine at the BannerDelweb Medical Center, Sun City West, Arizona USA.
He has held that position for the past 7 years at the hospital, listed amongst the top 50 hospitals in the USA.

Speaking to journalists, Oji revealed that since 2011, he has been donating medical books and journals worth millions of naira to ABSU, which is his alma mater.
He added, “My wife and I donated N65 million while my friends and associates donated added more money, totalling N88 million, which was used to build an N88 million 44-bed post-graduate hostel donated to ABSU. The collaboration was done with friends and members of my NGO ZESPRONET.


“I also donated N54 million solar street lights and N28 million solar panels to power the ABSU digital library. To date, I am the single highest donor of any kind to Abia State University Uturu.

“By the special grace of God, as I have done in the past 15 years, I was finally able to ship books and medical journals worth approximately $5200 to ABSU medical library.
“This is something I have committed to doing as my contribution towards public education. For me, a country is as good as its public education.
“For my alma mater, the Methodist College Uzuakoli, I, along with some friends, built a monument in 2024.
“It was a N9.2 million naira project for our centennial event

“I just want to put it out to encourage anyone of us to find his niche towards making a difference in our society”, he stated.

Dr Oji, incidentally, is the first son and first child of Rev Prince Joshua and Doris Oji, PHD of Oror Village Arochukwu. Rev Joshua Oji by the way, is a son of Eze Kanu Oji, former Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom, and the grandfather of the present Eze Aro.
So, Dr Boris Oji is an elder brother to the current Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom, His Eminence Eze Dr Eberechukwu Oji.
He, along with his wife Kelly (Obidiya), has also impacted the community of Arochukwu by providing access to potable water to the community and has been providing palliatives yearly to Oror indigenes since 2018 till date.
In the area of education, they have provided scholarships to the indigent.
By virtue of his philanthropy, he has also been able to facilitate the admission of umu Aro, both male and female, who seek admission to Abia State University, especially in the extremely competitive courses of Medicine and Law.
They have also made available a public toilet/ convenience for the council hall of Oror village.
In December 2024, he was among the members of the Arochukwu community who were presented with the highly revered Ugwu Aro award by the the office of Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom and Nzuko Aro Worldwide.
Speaking on the recognition, Dr Oji said “By the special grace of God, this investiture of Ugwu Aro is now a call of duty and to serve Arochukwu more visibly. I know we will do that and will surpass what we have done in the past.
I am grateful to the Nzuko Aro for finding me worthy of this honour as Ugwu Aro and especially grateful to His Eminence Eze Dr Eberechukwu Oji for his approval of it.
