The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has come down hard on former Abia State governor and Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, describing him as a “kindergarten politician” when compared to Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate.
The apex Igbo youth organisation issued the scathing rebuke following Kalu’s appearance on Channels Television, where he boasted that he remains the most important politician from the Southeast.
During the programme, Kalu had said:
“Peter is not my leader. I’m the most important politician from that zone. I have won two states before under the PPA. I have run for president before. My 4.9 million votes are still there since 2007. I achieved a lot with PPA. We had ministers, ambassadors, and several appointments under President Yar’Adua.”
But reacting during a press briefing on Sunday, the National President of OYC, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, dismissed Kalu’s claims as “laughable and self-delusional,” saying they only expose his lack of political relevance and sophistication.
According to him, Orji Uzor Kalu has no moral or political standing to compare himself with Peter Obi, who he described as “a trailblazer and the most widely accepted politician in modern Nigeria.”
“Orji Uzor Kalu should humble himself and learn political acceptability and credibility from Mr. Peter Obi. He cannot rival Obi’s influence, popularity, or respect in the Southeast or across Nigeria,” Igboayaka said.
The OYC leader hailed Peter Obi as the first politician from Igboland, living or dead, to win in all five Southeast states during a presidential election, and the first opposition candidate to win in Lagos and Abuja against the ruling party.
“Peter Obi has become a political institution. He rekindled Nigerians’ faith in elections and motivated millions to register to vote. The Obidient Movement remains the most organic and credible political base in Nigeria’s history,” Igboayaka added.
He further described Kalu as “a product of corruption and a failed system,” recalling his ₦7.56 billion fraud conviction which was later overturned through what he termed “a corrupt judiciary and political lobbying.”
“In a decent country, Orji Uzor Kalu would be moving in shame on the streets with his face covered. He’s not even qualified to be a gate man in Peter Obi’s political kingdom,” Igboayaka fired.
The youth leader also dismissed Kalu’s claim that his former party, the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), “won two states”, describing it as “a fraudulent narrative sustained by the rigging machinery of former INEC chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu.”
According to him, the so-called victories in Abia and Imo States were products of electoral malpractice, noting that Kalu “could not win any credible election in his home base, Abia, or anywhere in the Southeast.”
“Orji Uzor Kalu is a political failure. He even bought a presidential ticket for Ahmed Lawal in 2023, but the plan collapsed. He should stop embarrassing himself,” Igboayaka said.
Looking ahead, the OYC President warned Kalu to prepare for political retirement by 2027, when the Ballot Revolution driven by the Obidient Movement would, according to him, “sweep across Nigeria.”
“Peter Obi’s name will be on the ballot in 2027, under any party platform. Anyone planning to rig that election should think twice. Nigerians are ready. It will be eye for eye, tooth for tooth. The people are done with political oppression,” he warned.
