The Kushemi-Moses Royal family of Ikeja, has sent an SOS to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, appealing to him to act fast in order to avert communal clash and bloodshed in the ancient kingdom of Ikeja.

In a statement on Thursday, the chairman of the royal family, Leke Moses, warned those he described as parading themselves as Oba-elect or royal families, to retrace their steps.

According to Moses, these steps are capable of jeopardising the existing peace in the kingdom or cause divisions among the indigenes.

The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to the trending videos and news on social media and in some national dailies on the installment of an Oba in Ikeja by some power brokers, who want to turn Ikeja into a political field.
“Ikeja Obaship stool is a traditional one; therefore it should not be partisanship of any sort.

“Till date, the Oba in council of Ikeja land, the Kushemi-Moses family occupies the Asiwaju, the Ekerin and the Odofin of Ikeja titles.
“Ikeja Town is not a jungle. Enough of doing things in isolation; due process must be taken into consideration so as to allow peace to reign.

“If things are not done the proper way, we may be forced to revert to legal battle to set the record straight.”

It added: “History is our witness. Those who founded Ikeja were Oshoja, Amori, (the late Olu of Ikeja was known as Amore), Iyade-ilo, Kushemi-Moses and the Balogun royal families with their footprint through their descendants.
“Therefore, we will not fold our arms and watch usurpers claim what rightly belongs to our fore-fathers.

“The charade and laughable parade around the community by these puppeteers would only bring disrepute to the highly revered first class royal throne of Ikeja.

“And we ask, how can you install a first class Oba in Lagos State without the involvement of all the royal families, the kingmakers, the chiefs, the Local Government Chairman, and the governor of the State, whose seat of office is located in the town of Ikeja?

“We hereby call on the Governor of Lagos State to act fast in order to avert the looming trouble in the ancient kingdom.”
