A human rights defender and chieftain of Labour Party in Nigeria, Chief Dr Patrick Osagie Eholor has commended the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun for promptly disbanding a team of seven officers who ran over a handcuffed man with their vehicle.
The incident occurred in Ekpoma, Esan west local government of Edo State. Eholor is one of the public commentators who granted an interview to Jungle-Journalist.Com, a report which drew public outcry, apparently leading to the action of the IGP.
According to the activist-cum-politician, the IGPs action is a confirmation that he is ready to work and transform the Police Force.
Speaking further, the humanist argued that the Nigeria Police Force unfortunately, is full of officer who lack training and engage in their jobs more like criminals. He also pledged to render total support, along with other activists in the country to the IGP, if he continues in his transformation of the Police.
His words “The action of IGP Kayode Egbetokun shows that indeed, he is poised to correct the numerous anomies in the Nigerian Police. He has started well by taking decisive action on the rascal Edo officers and also sending them off for disciplinary action.
“We at One Love Foundation while commending him, call for more, and promise to provide every kind of support at our disposal to the Police Chief.
“Lastly, I want to call on the IGP to call the Force PRO, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi to order, over a very controversial statement he made. He actually said the police has a right to shoot unarmed Nigerian citizens! The IGP must compel him to apologise to Nigerians for that provocative utterance or resign from the police, because his statement does not represent the Nigeria Police that is being funded with tax-payers money.
There are so many officers within the rank and file who do their jobs with pride, but there are others who are determined to disgrace the Police Force. We must support the police and they must strive to reclaim their lost glory.
“The IGP must also keep his promise by withdrawing the numerous officers serving VIPs. Many IGPs have claimed that they will do it but failed. There were just two police check points along Lagos Benin highway. I complained and he disbanded it, he should go on and disnaltle others. He has proven he is a tiger, so it remains for him to prove that he is a lion”.
