Residents have taken to the streets in a massive protest against the Christmas Eve attacks that claimed at least 140 lives and left countless others missing.
Donning black attire and brandishing a banner which read, “Enough is Enough,” the demonstrators demanded an end to the violence that has continued to ravage their communities.
The December 24th attacks, targeting remote villages in Bokkos and two other districts, were attributed to the long-standing farmer-herder crisis.
While no group has officially claimed responsibility, fingers point towards herders from the Fulani tribe, historically accused of orchestrating similar mass killings across the northwest and central regions.
The protest comes a day after women from Bokkos Local Government Area, driven to desperation by the perceived inaction of their District Head, Saf Monday Adanchi, set his house ablaze.
According to the natives, it is irritating that there is a surge in security personnel arresting local youths while the perpetrators of the Christmas Eve attacks remain at large, even when their enclaves are known.
