In the quiet community of Amiri Umuecheta in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, a soft-spoken young man is redefining what it means to heal in the name of God. At just 34, Prophet Anthony Chimezie Calvary Ireozor has become a voice in a rare kind of ministry — one that bridges the unseen worlds of Christian spirituality and African tradition.
His calling, he says, came early. As a child in primary school, while others played or memorized multiplication tables, young Anthony dreamed of the priesthood. But his real ordination didn’t come from seminary walls. It came through visions — flashes of light, prophetic voices, and a restless energy that made him prophesy and pray over people long before he could fully understand what it meant.
By secondary school, the spirit became too strong to ignore. “Whenever my teacher began to teach, I would fall asleep,” he recalls. “Then I would see myself preaching, giving prophecy, healing people.” The trance-like experiences grew so intense that he eventually dropped out of school. “I couldn’t go further,” he says, “because the Spirit of God was driving me like a madman.”
That spiritual restlessness gave birth to All Believers Christian Prayer Ministry — a ministry that is not a church, but a sanctuary open to all who believe. Here, Prophet Calvary prays, prophesies, and heals, drawing on herbs, roots, and divine revelation to address ailments of the body and spirit. “Before I do anything for anybody,” he explains, “the Spirit of God must first reveal what the person is passing through, and how to go about it.”
He calls it trado-Christian spirituality — a form of worship that recognizes that long before the arrival of colonial religion, God had already deposited knowledge of healing among African ancestors. To him, there is no contradiction between faith and nature. “Our forefathers knew how to cast out demons and cure madness,” he says. “God gave them that power. It is not evil — it is wisdom.”
In his ministry, deliverance meets divination, and prophecy walks hand-in-hand with prayer. He confronts issues like ogbanje, marine spirit possession, Agwu (holy spirit of divination), and onye uwa — reincarnation-linked afflictions that, he believes, can tie families down for generations. Yet, his methods remain grounded in prayer, fasting, revelation, and the use of plants. “I do both spiritual and traditional work,” he explains, “as long as it is pure, and it works.”
