Following the circumstances surrounding the death of the late rapper Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, aka Mohbad, popular radio broadcast stations in Ibadan have banned playing songs by Naira Marley and Marlian Label on air until further notice.

The banning of Naira Marley’s songs on Splash FM was made known via a post on X (formerly Twitter) by one of the station’s presenters, Aderonke Adesola (Olori Sports).

According to the post, all songs from the ‘Puta’ crooner have been banned from the station until further notice.

The post read, “Good evening, team. In view of the sensitive nature surrounding the death of Mohbad and the criminal procedure initiated by the police, I urge us all to exercise discretion.

“To this effect, Naira Marley’s songs have become NTBB (not to be broadcast) on our station until further notice. This is with immediate effect. Thank you.”

Similarly, another radio station in Ibadan, Agidigbo 88.7 FM, has suspended the airplay of all songs from the Marlian Music label over the development.

In a statement made available on the Facebook page of a presenter at the station, Oriyomi Hamzat, late Monday, the station said the decision was taken in response to the public outcry that has continued to trail the rapper’s death.

The post read, “This is to inform the general public that Agidigbo 88.7 FM has suspended the airplay of all songs produced under the banner of Marlian Records, following the public outcry that has trailed the death of Mohbad and the alleged victimisation he experienced at the hands of people linked with the label before his death. #JusticeforMohbad.”

Also in Ekiti State, a privately owned radio broadcast station, Fresh FM 106.9 FM, Ado in Ekiti State, on Tuesday morning, banned the playing of songs by Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, from airing on the station till further notice.

The radio station disclosed this in a post shared on its Instagram handle (@freshfm1069adoekiti) and signed by its Head of production and Music Content, Oluwaseunfunmi Williams.

Since Mohbad’s death was made public, some social media users have continued to express dissatisfaction over the alleged ill-treatment Mohbad was subjected to by his former record label, with many calling out the Marlian boss, Naira Marley, on social media platforms.

Mohbad passed away on Tuesday at the age of 27.
