A fresh trouble looms for the former Governor of Enugu State, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani as the candidate of the Labour Party has approached a Federal High Court, seeking his disqualification.

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party on Friday, wielded the big stick by expelling Nnamani who’s their candidate for Enugu East Senatorial Zone election and 6 others.

The PDP said in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba in Abuja, said their expulsion is because of anti-party activities and other serious crimes.

Ologunagba stated “The NWC of the PDP at its 566th meeting today, Friday, February 10, 2023, approved the expulsion of the following individuals from the Party for anti-Party activities”.

However, hours after the action of the PDP which Nnamani has rejected, the candidate of the Labour Party in Enugu East Senatorial District, Victor Oyibo Chukwu has approached the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking the disqualification of Senator Nnamani from Contesting the 2023 Enugu East Senatorial District election.

Oyibo Chukwu in a suit by his Counsel, Chukwudi Igwe Esq., said that Chimaroke cannot validly contest the said election when he has been expelled from the PDP as a member.

He contended in the said suit that Section 66(2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria made it compulsory that for a person to be qualified to contest for an election in Nigeria, that he must be a registered member of a political party.

He further argued that the said Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, having been expelled as a member of the Peoples’Democratic Party has been disqualified to contest the said election. That the Nigerian electoral system does not recognize independent candidacy hence Senator Chimaroke Nnamani has lost his candidacy in the PDP consequent upon his expulsion.
