About 1000 traditional native doctors under the auspices of Anambra State Traditional Doctors Movement (ASTDM), on Thursday, besieged the State House of Assembly complex at Awka, demanding for a legislation to protect their practice.

The traditionalists, who said they were genuinely engaging in traditional healings and others, also hailed governor Chukwuma Soludo’s move to sanitise the sector of fraudster, including promoters of Okeite, ritualists, and other bad eggs.

Speaking at the occasion, the group’s Chairman, Chief Innocent Okwundu, praised the new Anambra state law that empowered Agunechemba security outfit to fight violence crimes and promised to support government in fishing out the fakes among them.

According to Okwundu, ASTDM would collaborate with the State Assembly to ensure that all grey areas were addressed and clarified to avoid unnecessary intimidation and rip off by some persons especially at the rural communities.

The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, while welcoming the traditionalists, said they were already working towards amending every part of the law to bring about synergy and cooperation between the government and the Traditional Doctors in the state.

The Speaker, represented by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, also urged the traditional doctors to register with the State as it was free of cost, even as he warned community leaders against taking undue advantage of the situation to extort people.
