A storm of outrage has erupted in the United Kingdom as Ogbako Ndi Igbo UK, the umbrella body of Igbo organisations in Britain, demanded the immediate removal of Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), for what it described as the official amplification of “ethnic hate speech” against the Igbo nation.
In a formal petition dated September 15, 2025, and sighted by Jungle-Journalist.Com, the Igbo group accused Dabiri-Erewa of “sanctioning and spreading hate” by reposting a virulently offensive post authored by one Wale Akere on the social media platform X (Twitter).
The post branded Igbos as “monkeys,” “children of gorillas,” and “bastards.” Ogbako Ndi Igbo UK insisted that by amplifying such content from her verified official handle, Dabiri-Erewa had crossed from personal indiscretion into institutionalised bigotry.
“By choosing to amplify this tirade,” the group said, “she did not just overlook bigotry, she actively participated in it, sanctioned it, and broadcasted this hate speech to a global audience.”
A Vote of No Confidence
The statement, signed by Chief Dr. Charles Ukandu (President) and Barrister Ken Udeoka (Secretary General), declared a vote of no confidence in Dabiri-Erewa and announced a boycott of all NIDCOM-related activities by Igbo organisations in the UK and wider diaspora until she is removed from office.
It further warned that “Ndi Igbo, an ethnic nation of over fifty million people, will no longer tolerate being the target of state-sanctioned bigotry.”
Attestation from UK Igbo Leaders
The petition was endorsed by prominent Igbo leaders across the UK, including:
- Dr. Mrs. Daisy Nwaozuzu, President, Nzuko Ndi Igbo Dundee, Scotland
- Uchenna Odunukwe Esq., President, Igbo Union Milton Keynes
- Dr. Emma Nwofe, President, Igbo Union Yorkshire
- Dr. Richard Ochiobi, President, Igbo Community Manchester
- Barr. Kenneth Udeoka, President, Igbo Community London
- Maazi Dozie Eluwa, President, Oxford Igbo Union
- Maazi Emeka Mbadinuju, President, Igbo Union Swindon
- Maazi Ken Uwakwe Odo, President, Ndi Igbo North East England
A Call on Tinubu and the High Commission
Ogbako Ndi Igbo UK has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to act “decisively and immediately” by removing Dabiri-Erewa in the interest of national unity and cohesion.
The petition also tasked the Nigerian High Commission in the UK to take a stand, urging it to “publicly condemn this hate speech, alienate itself from her conduct, and support actions that heal rather than divide.”
A Broader Message
Beyond the immediate demand, the group appealed to civil society, patriotic Nigerians, and the international community to join in condemning what it described as “a reprehensible act that dishonours Nigeria’s diversity and unity.”
“Until this grievous error is rectified,” the petition concluded, “we will not engage with an institution that has become a vehicle for the dehumanisation of our people.”
