Okigwe, Imo State – Fresh tension has gripped Okigwe following a shocking revelation by local youths, who released a list of prominent indigenes allegedly killed by a notorious gang leader, Ifeanyi Eze, popularly known as Gentle de Yahoo.
Okigwe, historically plagued by violence, has become a hotspot for assassinations, kidnappings, and cult-related killings in recent years. Analysts blame the surge on years of unchecked insecurity, political rivalries, and the proliferation of firearms in the region.
Among the most feared names linked to this dark wave of terror is Gentle de Yahoo, whose criminal activities have allegedly spanned several communities including Arondizuogu, Umulolo, Ubaha, Umuowa-Ibu, and Amosu. Residents accuse his gang of carrying out serial killings and targeted assassinations over the past few years.

- Mrs. Cordelia Okoli & Husband (Obinetiti Arondizuogu)
- Mazi Kasieobi (Ndimoko Arondizuogu)
- Mazi Jude, Uche & 2 brothers – 4 members of Nwogu family (Ndiogbonyeoma Uno Arondizuogu)
- Mrs. Joseph Agwuncha (Obinetiti Arondizuogu)
- Mazi Chris Okereke (Ndimoko Arondizuogu)
- Mr. & Mrs. Patrick Agu (Umukele Umulolo)
- Mr. Ikeokwu Chukwuonye Family & Brothers – 5 killed (Umukele Umulolo)
- Mr. Uchenna Alaebo a.k.a. Double G, and his son
The youths also claimed that three members of the gang were recently seen being executed in a viral video, further stirring outrage and fear across the communities.
History of Violence in Okigwe
Okigwe’s history of violent crimes dates back decades, with communal clashes, political assassinations, and cult rivalries regularly making headlines. The situation deteriorated in the past five years, as armed gangs and criminal groups capitalized on poor security infrastructure to establish strongholds.
The emergence of figures like Gentle Yahoo has added a bloody dimension to the crisis, with allegations of mass killings, kidnappings, and brazen attacks targeting both high-profile individuals and families.
Authorities Yet to Respond
As of the time of filing this report, the Imo State Police Command has not issued an official statement on the allegations or the viral video purportedly showing gang members being shot dead.
Community leaders and human rights advocates have renewed calls for the immediate deployment of a joint security task force to dismantle armed gangs in Okigwe and restore law and order.
