In a move that has jolted local corridors of power, popular Middle Belt journalist and publisher Yahaya Idris has turned down an appointment as Special Assistant to Pharmacist Ahmed Baba Yahaya, Executive Chairman of Toto Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.

In a statement signed by him and made available to Jungle-Journalist.Com, Idris — who runs several of the region’s most-read political and community blogs — said the refusal was deliberate: a bid to protect his public image and focus on preparations for the 2027 elections.

He nonetheless thanked the Chairman for the show of confidence, and for appointing three of his younger brothers — Abdulgafar, Suleiman and Abdulwahab Idris — calling the gesture fatherly and generous.

Idris warned that his rejection should not be read as opposition. Rather, he said, it is a principled step to preserve credibility while he positions himself for bigger battles ahead.

To new appointees, he offered blunt counsel: remain loyal, earn your stripes, and remember that greater privilege brings greater expectations.

With one leg in the newsroom and the other in the political trenches, Yahaya Idris has fired an early shot: 2027 is not just on the horizon — it has already begun in Toto, Nasarawa.
