A terrifying attack has left one worker severely injured at a local quarry in Ebe Town, Enugu State, after suspected Fulani herdsmen ambushed a group of workers on Wednesday.

The incident, which the video has since gone viral, occurred while the laborers were engaged in their routine activities of digging and sieving stones at the mining site.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Fulani herdsmen emerged unexpectedly from the nearby bush, brandishing weapons and shooting sporadically into the air, causing panic among the workers. Most of the workers fled for their lives, but one man, whose identity has been withheld, was not as fortunate. He was caught by the attackers and brutally assaulted with machetes, sustaining multiple severe injuries.

A survivor who spoke on condition of anonymity described the traumatic event, recounting how the attackers stormed the site without warning. “We were just working, minding our business when suddenly we heard gunshots. Everyone ran for their lives, but one of us wasn’t fast enough. They caught him and started cutting him with machetes. It was a nightmare.”

The survivors of the attack, many of whom are local laborers struggling to earn a living, have expressed grave concern for their safety. “We are just trying to make an honest living, but now we are scared to even go back to work. How can we continue like this when we don’t feel safe?” one of the survivors lamented.

Residents of Ebe Town are also calling on the authorities to take urgent action to address the rising insecurity in the area, particularly around the quarry, which has become a target for such attacks in recent times. There is growing fear that without immediate intervention, further violence could occur, putting more lives at risk.

The Enugu State Police Command is yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. However, local sources indicate that security forces have been deployed to the area to investigate the attack and maintain peace.

This incident is the latest in a series of violent confrontations involving suspected Fulani herdsmen in different parts of the country, raising renewed concerns about security in rural areas.
