Eze Ogos (traditional rulers) of the different communities constituting Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State have officially adopted the Eze Aro-designate of Arochukwu kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Eberechukwu Oji.
The Eze Ogos, who were gathered to hold their monthly meeting in Arochukwu, said they were using the opportunity to adopt the new king, whom they affirmed to be the authentic Eze, having been chosen by the Okennachi royal kindred, and blessed by the Bianko, Amaja, and , as tradition demanded.
The adoption ceremony was also a solemn one, performed by the offering of kolanuts and pouring of libation to the ancestors of all Arochukwu Local Government Area, whom they implored to bless the new king, and grant a smooth crowning ceremony on 26th December, 2023, when he would complete all the ceremonies into ascending the throne.
Performing the solemn ceremony, Mazi Thomas Nlenanya Okoroji, Eze Ogo Amuvi village and deputy to Eze Bianko said “ancestors of Aro, ancestors of Ututu, ancestors of Abam, ancestors of Isu, ancestors of Ihechiowa, accept our drink and kolanuts offerings, on Eke, on Orie, on Avor, on Nkwo.
“Our son, Eberechukwu has been chosen. He has gone to Ndi Oke, his own home and has been accepted. He has gone to Utughugwu, and to Bianko and to Amaja, and he has been accepted. Now, we Ndi Eze have also accepted and adopted him. What is left is for us to go and crown him. We know it shall be so. We know that all the ancestors of Aro have accepted him to be king, and that through him, Aro will be great again. It will be well with all the Eze Ogos, and all the people of Arochukwu local government area.
“Almighty God brought him forth to reign as king, and he has been accepted. He shall prosper, and he shall be blessed with long life, health and happiness, he and his family”, Eze Ogo Amuvi prayed. He poured libation, and offered kolanuts to the ancestors, even as all assembled expressed excitement.
According to them, the kolanut lobes all lay face up, a spiritual sign signifying acceptance by the ancestors, and good omen.
Some of those who were present include Ezeogo Solomon Okeke Akan, the chairman council of Ndi Ezeogo, Arochukwu LGA, Ezeogo Emmanuel O Ebebe, (secretary) and Ezeogo T.N.Okororji (Ezeogo Amuvi Arochukwu).
