Micheal Onu Emmanuel is running for the Nkanu East State Constituency Election for the Enugu State House of Assembly.

Emmanuel has been at the forefront of providing basic needs to the people of Nkanu land, especially, the Nkanu East communities.

One area he had assisted is in roads maintenance.

The Amankanu/Ubahu road, located in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State recently got a touch of improvement from Michael Onu Emmanuel.

The Amankanu people had been having a hard time going back to their homes, since a portion of the road had failed completely.

Emmanuel donated hugely towards the culvert project, and today, it has been completed, and Amankanu has once again become accessible to travelers.

A practical method he has used to engage the youths into responsible living is through football.

He instituted ‘A Better Nkanu Tournament’, with the goal of uniting Nkanu youths, engaging them in sporting activities and providing palliatives in the form of prizes at the end of the tournament.

For the 2023 tournament, 10 communities comprising of 13 wards participated. They include 1. Nkerefi, 2. Nara, 3. Ugbawka, 4. Mburubu, 5. Nomeh, 6. Amaechi-idodo/Oruku, 7. Ihuokpara, 8. Amankanu-Ubahu, 9. Amagunze, 10. Owo.

Participating teams are provided with transport allowances to any location a match has been scheduled to take place.

The first match was between Mburubu and Nara on February 15th, 2023, and since Nara didn’t show up for the game, Mburubu was awarded 3 points and Nara got none.

The final matches will take place on Wednesday and Thursday this week, in Mburubu and whoever emerges winner will be presented with the the trophy. The winning team also gets the prize tag of ₦‎450K (Four Hundred and fifty Thousand Naira), and the first runner up will get 250K (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira).

The second runner up will get One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira.

A Better Nkanu Tournament, as you may have read earlier, is designed to help youths in these Nkanu communities socialise more, and become closer as families.

Aside this, the youths are rewarded for their efforts, and even the coaches.

Organisers of the tourney also provide transportation fares to the two members of the five-man committee that will witness each game. Similarly, the five-man committee will get cash prizes too.

The Referee (s) and the Linesmen will get cash bonuses for officiating the matches.

All the cash prizes and awards will be presented at the end of the Final Match.

Refreshments are also provided for every match, and a First Aid Box is made available for emergencies.

According to Mr Micheal Onu Emmanuel, everyone is encouraged to watch the tournament, because, who knows, many may draw inspiration from there.

He also said “The purpose of sponsoring this sports competition is to inspire, motivate, and engage young people about unity while simultaneously adding enjoyment to participants and entertaining the spectators. The bottom line is to build our community.

“The purpose of soccer is to provide distinctive dimensions such as health, relationships, education, joy, and social change.

“Through social change, soccer activity is an avenue to promote unity, progress, and development in Nkanu-East Constituency.

“I strongly believe we need a vibrant and positive social change in Nkanu-East.

“We use sportsmanship to develop an attitude that encourages fair play, civility toward teammates, and opponents, ethical behaviors and honesty, and grace in victory or defeat”, he said.

Emmanuel also, has provided solutions in the education sector, paying for the West African School Certificate Examination Council Examination (WASSCE) and National Examination Council (NECO) fees for secondary school in Mburubu.

According to information made available to the media, this gesture started in 2018, and they distributed critical school materials (notebooks, pencils, chalks, and so on.) to different schools in Nkanu East Local Government Area such as Mburubu, Nomeh, and Nara.

His Foundation in 2021, had also distributed approximately 100 leather sandals to students, fixed the roof of the decrepit Health Center, and repaired the floor of Primary School in Mburubu.
