Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has further directed the closure of all scrap and waste markets in both Abia Central and Abia North senatorial zones of the state with immediate effect, till  further notice.

This is coming on the heels of an earlier directive of the Governor to shut down the scrap markets in Abia South Senatorial Zone.

According to a statement signed by the Honourable Commisioner for Trade and Investment, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, security agents have been directed to enforce the closure, while a task force will be set up to monitor the activities of the scrap market dealers.

The statement also revealed that the task force members are to be inaugurated on Tuesday, 17th May, 2022 at the Ministry of Trade and Investment, Ogurube Layout, Umuahia, by 11am, to support the enforcement of the closure as well as carry out proper documentation of all those involved in the trade.

Below is a list of members:

Chief Nnamdi Balogu (Choppy) – State Coordinator
