Abuja, September 4, 2025 – It was a black Wednesday in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as a family of five lost their lives in a ghastly accident at Mabushi District, near the Federal Ministry of Works headquarters, after suspected revenue touts working for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) allegedly attacked their vehicle.

According to News Desk Africa, the armed touts, popularly called agbero, wrestled the steering wheel of the family’s SUV in a manner that looked like an armed robbery attack. The terrified driver, believing he was about to be carjacked, lost control and plunged into the road divider. All occupants of the car – the man, his wife, their son, and two other family members – died instantly.

The touts responsible for the deadly chaos did not escape mob justice. Three of them were captured by passersby, doused in petrol, and set ablaze in broad daylight.

“This is what AMAC agberos have caused here in Abuja,” a voice was heard lamenting in a viral video from the scene. “They chased this man, entered his car, dragged the steering, and now his entire family is dead. The FCT Minister must act now. These AMAC agberos must leave Abuja roads.”

Second Incident in Area 11

Jungle-Journalist.Com also gathered from News Desk Africa editors that another similar incident occurred the same day along the Area 11–Apo Road. A different set of touts clung to the steering wheel of a young man’s car, dangerously swerving the vehicle from one side of the road to the other until it finally halted at the entrance of the NNPC Staff Quarters.

Unlike the Mabushi tragedy, this time passersby intervened before lives were lost. The agberos were overpowered, beaten, and made to sit on the ground as residents interrogated them to determine if they were truly AMAC revenue enforcers or ordinary criminals.

One eyewitness said: “The way they grabbed that steering, anyone would think they were car thieves. We had to stop them before they killed the driver or innocent people on the road.”

Silence from Authorities

As at the time of filing this report, the FCT Police Command had not issued any official statement regarding the deaths in Mabushi, the mob lynching of the touts, or the growing menace of AMAC revenue collectors across Abuja roads.

Residents, however, are demanding urgent intervention from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to dismantle the violent network of so-called revenue touts before more lives are lost.
