The leadership crisis in the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a fresh twist as Dr. Ben Nwoye, the newly appointed Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, has nullified all suspensions earlier imposed on members by the dissolved Ugochukwu Agballah-led executive.
Nwoye, who returned to the helm of affairs following the dissolution of Agballah’s structure by the National Working Committee (NWC), made the announcement during a meeting with party leaders and supporters at the APC Secretariat in Enugu.
He described the wave of suspensions carried out under the previous leadership as a “political caricature” that weakened the party and alienated its core members.
“How can you suspend the very people you need to win elections?” Nwoye asked, drawing loud applause from party faithful.
According to him, all disciplinary actions, whether announced by radio, letter or audio messages, are hereby null and void, as the party must now focus on reconciliation and reintegration of all members.
“No Victor, No Vanquished”
The caretaker chairman emphasized that his mandate is to unite, not divide the party, urging all factions to set aside grievances and work towards a common goal ahead of 2027.
“There is no victor and no vanquished. This is not a time for vengeance but for unity. We must open our arms to those who may have gone astray and rebuild our house together,” he said.
Nwoye disclosed that the national leadership of the APC had directed him to stabilize and reposition the party in Enugu ahead of future political contests.
He noted that the political landscape of the state has shifted significantly with the emergence of Governor Peter Mbah, whose expected defection to the APC has, according to him, “ushered in a new dawn for progressive politics in Enugu.”
“With the right strategy and unity of purpose, APC will not remain on the sidelines in Enugu. We will be the party that sets the agenda and defines the next political direction of this state,” he stated.
Background
The NWC had on October 9, 2025, dissolved the Agballah-led state executive and appointed a seven-man caretaker committee headed by Ben Nwoye with Eugene Odo as secretary. The move, however, has been rejected by Agballah, who described it as “strange and unconstitutional.”
The development has further deepened the silent war within Enugu APC, as internal factions struggle for control of the party structure — a battle seen by analysts as part of the larger realignment of political forces in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
