A Jungle-Journalist.Com Report
Enugu | October 11, 2025

Sacked Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Hon. Ugochukwu Agballah, has rejected the dissolution of the state executive committee by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), describing the action as “strange, unconstitutional, and reminiscent of military impunity.”

In a statement jointly signed by Agballah and the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Titus Ezeagu, the Enugu APC leadership condemned the NWC’s resolution reached at its 179th meeting on October 9, 2025, which dissolved the elected state executive and appointed a seven-man caretaker committee headed by Ben Nwoye as chairman and Eugene Odo as secretary.

The statement made available to Jungle-Journalist.Com, was posted in the APC official WhatsApp platforms and widely circulated in many other social media platforms.

Agballah insisted that the state executive was duly elected through a legitimate congress as enshrined in the APC constitution, and could not be removed without due process.

“The APC Enugu State executive committee was duly elected by party congress as enshrined in our party constitution,” the statement said.
“The state was not informed of any constitutional breach or infraction to have warranted such a drastic action by the NWC.”

He accused the party’s national leadership of violating the principle of fair hearing, stressing that no disciplinary committee was ever convened, nor was the state executive invited to defend itself.

Enugu Local Government Elections: APC Party Kicks, Alleges Exclusion

“Every organization is governed by laws. Our great party cannot make arbitrary orders reminiscent of our military history,” Agballah declared.

Act of Impunity

The statement described the NWC’s decision as an “act of impunity that will be resisted” by the entire party structure in Enugu, from the state to ward levels.

Agballah cited Article 21B (VI)(D) of the APC constitution, which, according to him, empowers the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee to first intervene in any disciplinary matter involving a state organ before any action by the national leadership.

“The dissolution of the APC Enugu State executive is strange, unknown to the laws of the party and an act of impunity that will be resisted,”
the statement emphasized.

Questions Over Caretaker Committee

Agballah also questioned the credibility of the newly announced caretaker committee, alleging that only one of its members is a valid APC member, while others had been expelled or suspended for anti-party activities.

“The rest were constitutionally either expelled or suspended for various forms of anti-party activities by their wards, local governments and state organs of the party, and duly ratified by the Southeast zonal executives,” he said.

He further recalled that the appointed caretaker chairman, Ben Nwoye, had formally resigned from the APC on April 17, 2025, after a public press conference in which he criticized the party’s national leadership.

Call for Calm and Defiance

Agballah declared that the state executive rejects the NWC’s resolution in its entirety, urging members to remain in their offices and ignore any directives from the caretaker committee.

“We call on all our party organs from the wards, local governments, zonal and state to remain in their offices as elected officials and continue to discharge their responsibilities,”
the statement said.

He called on members to remain calm and law-abiding, even as consultations continue with stakeholders at both the state and national levels.

“We firmly direct our members not to attend any meeting or gathering not approved by the lawfully elected State Executive Committee of the APC,” he concluded.
“This is another challenge to law and order that will deepen our democratic culture.”
