ABUJA, September 14, 2025 — Jungle-Journalist.Com

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has rejected alleged bribery attempts and propaganda campaigns by the Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, Mr. Sijibomi Ogundele, insisting that the N5.7 billion Smart Green Schools fraud probe in Enugu State will run its full course.

Sources within the Commission revealed that emissaries linked to Ogundele had approached investigators with offers to “settle” the case, but the anti-graft agency declined. “No amount of lobbying, inducement, or blackmail will derail this investigation,” a senior EFCC operative said.

Ogundele’s company was awarded a contract to deliver 22 Smart Green Schools within six months after receiving N5.7 billion mobilization. However, site inspections conducted by EFCC operatives and Enugu State officials showed most projects abandoned at foundation level. “Other contractors executed similar jobs with the same payments. Only Sujimoto disappeared with the money,” another official disclosed.

Investigators further alleged that beyond bribery attempts, Ogundele’s camp has launched a smear campaign to discredit the EFCC, accusing the agency of being used by political enemies while simultaneously sponsoring social media narratives to court sympathy.

In response, the EFCC secured a Magistrate Court remand order against Ogundele, froze his personal and company accounts, and seized his international passport. Officials say the next step may include a forfeiture order if he fails to explain or refund the billions in his custody.

The Enugu State Government, which awarded the contract, also accused Sujimoto of outright fraud. In a statement signed by Commissioner for Information, Dr. Malachy Agbo, the government alleged that the company deployed quack engineers and abandoned works after cashing out mobilization funds. Graphic evidence from joint inspections showed deserted sites across the state.

The contrast with other contractors under the same initiative is glaring: Chief Ikeje Asogwa of Intasog completed 12 schools, Surv. Ugo Chime of Testimony Enterprises delivered 10, Chinedu Nwobodo (Petit) of Albond Limited also 10, and Chief Charles Mba of CDV Properties another 10. Sujimoto, despite receiving the highest mobilization, delivered none.

EFCC sources described the case as a litmus test for the Commission’s determination to resist corruption and elite influence. “This is not about politics, this is about public trust. N5.7 billion of taxpayers’ money must be accounted for,” one top official emphasized.

With Ogundele now in EFCC custody and investigations ongoing, the outcome of the case is being closely watched nationwide as a possible turning point in Nigeria’s fight against high-profile contract fraud.
