A coalition of political stakeholders, civil society groups, and opposition platforms has unveiled a new political movement tagged “Atiku Givus Obi 2027” (AGOBI ’27), calling on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step aside from his presidential ambition and throw his weight behind Peter Obi as the ADC presidential candidate in 2027.

The groups, operating under the Save Democracy Mega Alliance (SDMA) and allied networks, said Nigeria’s opposition risks “handing President Bola Tinubu and the APC a free second term” if Atiku and Obi contest separately.

In a statement released in Abuja, the coalition argued that the ruling APC has already perfected strategies to frustrate opposition victory through alleged voter manipulation, militarized lockdowns on election day, and financial inducement of critical state institutions.

Among the “21 barricades” identified, the coalition highlighted three:

  • INEC’s planned abolition of PVCs and replacement with computer-generated slips, which they described as a gateway to digital electoral fraud.
  • Full military lockdown during elections, restricting opposition access to collation centres.
  • A “betrayal triangle” involving the judiciary, security forces, and the ruling party, allegedly being compromised ahead of 2027.

The AGOBI movement insists that only a united front, with Atiku backing Obi on the ADC platform, can dislodge APC from power.

Quoting their release, the group declared:

“While Tinubu could easily defeat both Atiku and Peter Obi contesting separately, not even a hundred Tinubus with a hundred-fold of federal might can withstand the force of a united Atiku-Obi front in 2027.”

The statement was jointly signed by prominent figures including Prince Tony Akeni (SDMA), Mallam Khalil Ahmed Rufai (UNF), Primate Henry Amike, High Chief Peter Ameh (CUPP), and several others across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

They concluded with a direct appeal to Atiku:

“Which of these do you wish to be remembered for — the man who sacrificed his ambition to liberate Nigeria, or who sacrificed Nigeria for his ambition yet never got it?”

The coalition maintained that AGOBI ’27 represents Nigeria’s foremost political freedom movement since Independence, and vowed to roll out nationwide and international engagements in the months ahead.
