The Ije Awele Movement, one of Enugu’s most formidable grassroots political groups, has formally bounced back into the state’s political space with a dramatic endorsement of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for continuity.
In what many described as a landmark event held on Monday, September 22, 2025, in Enugu, the movement not only declared support for Mbah but also unveiled a completely restructured leadership architecture designed to take its message to every ward, local government, and campus in the state.
The new structure includes:
- A Board of Trustees led by Hon. Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe.
- A Director General, Hon. Kingsley Ezinwa.
- Zonal and local government coordinators.
- Campus Connect, a youth wing targeting universities and polytechnics.
- Patrons and influencers tasked with community-level mobilization.
The group said these changes were meant to ensure grassroots penetration, so that ordinary citizens could both benefit from and defend the continuity of the governor’s reform programs.
During the briefing, the movement credited Mbah with restoring the dignity of Enugu State through projects in education, healthcare, agriculture, transport, and security. It cited initiatives like Smart Schools, Farm Estates, and CNG buses as examples of people-centered governance.
“Our new executives and coordinators will mobilize Ndi Enugu from the grassroots to ensure that the visionary leadership of Dr. Peter Mbah continues beyond 2027,” the communiqué read.
Political analysts note that the movement’s new structure and emphasis on youth through Campus Connect could make it one of the most decisive political forces heading into the next electoral cycle.
