Family Confirms Death of Evang Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai at 80

The global Christian community is mourning the passing of one of Nigeria’s most celebrated evangelists, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who has been called to glory at the age of 80.

The revered cleric, known for his fiery crusades, prophetic teachings, and decades of ministry across continents, was reported to have passed away on October 6, 2025, with his family officially confirming the news today, October 13.

In a heartfelt statement released on Monday, the family described the late preacher as “a faithful soldier of the cross” whose ministry touched millions and whose life embodied unwavering faith and divine service.

“With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the triumphant homegoing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on to glory on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80,” the statement read in part.
“He dedicated over six decades of his life to fiery evangelism, dynamic teaching of the Word, and prophetic demonstrations of the power of God. He impacted millions of lives and transformed destinies within Nigeria and across the globe.”

The family said further that while his death leaves a deep void, they take solace in the legacy of faith and service he leaves behind.

“We rejoice that he has finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise. Details of the obsequies will be announced in due course,” the statement added.

Rev. Ukpai, founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA) headquartered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was one of Nigeria’s earliest and most enduring televangelists. Known for his booming voice, humility, and miraculous healing crusades, he was a fixture on Nigeria’s faith landscape for over half a century.

Beyond his evangelistic missions, Dr. Ukpai was also a mentor to a generation of Christian leaders and preachers who today lead ministries across Africa and beyond.

Tributes have begun to pour in from across the world, with clergy, political leaders, and followers describing his passing as “the end of an era in global evangelism.”

One of his close associates described him as “a man who lived ready to meet his Maker — a general who fought the good fight of faith and finished well.”

As the nation reflects on his remarkable life, preparations are underway for what is expected to be a grand celebration of a man whose message, miracles, and mentorship defined modern Nigerian Christianity.
