Founder of Gregory University Uturu Prof Gregory Ibe has described the recently announced news of the sudden death of prominent Nigerian statesman Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu as “a rude shock that is both disturbing and distressful”.

Prof Ibe who made the statement while reacting to Thursday’s announcement of the death of the current President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Iwuanyanwu, wondered why the apex Igbo social cultural organization is being faced with the unfortunate calamity of losing her serving top brass leaders anyhow and called for spiritual introspection in order to attract divine intervention.

“I have received the sad news of the death of our socio-political leader and entrepreneur par excellence Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu with great pain. The unfortunate development is a rude shock that is both disturbing and distressful”,Prof Ibe said.

“While commiserating with the Iwuanyanwu family of Atta Ikeduru in Imo State, I am compelled by similar death of the immediate past President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof George Obiozor, whose tenure Ahaejiagamba was trying to complete, to call for deep introspection and spiritual interrogation in order to prevent subsequent repeat of such tragedies. Without sounding superstitious, I want to recommend that Ndigbo seek the face of God as a people in order to break this repetative cycle of death”.

Continuing Prof Ibe said, “Recall that in the recent past we have lost Chief Mbazulike Amaechi (aka The Boy is Good), Prof George Obiozor, Prof Joe Irukwu, and now the cold hand of death has also snatched our towering iroko and captain of many thriving business brands including, Hardel and Enic Construction Company, Champion Newspapers, Oriental Airlines and Magil Construction Company, Chief Engr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, MFR”.

Prof Ibe who is also a member of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Presidential Advisory Council enjoined leaders of the South East region, especially government and people of Imo State to immortalize the legacies of Chief Iwuanyanwu by naming some public facilities after him.

“Sequel to the tangible impacts of our departed socio-political leader in private and public sectors, I will like to enjoin governments at different levels, especially that of his home state Imo, to immortalize the legacies of Chief Iwuanyanwu by naming some public facilities after him”, he said.

News about the death of Chief Iwuanyanwu who died after a brief illness at 82 was made public via a press statement by his son Jide Iwuanyanwu on Thursday 25 July 2024.
