A Nigerian man has reportedly called off his wedding after visiting his fiancée’s home and witnessing her father doing household chores. The story, originally shared on social media by user @Rukksssst, has since sparked a major debate online.

The man was reportedly disturbed to see his prospective father-in-law washing plates while his fiancée’s mother urged him to hurry up. According to the post, the man immediately decided to cancel the wedding, disturbed by the “dynamic” of the household.

The post read: “A guy cancelled his wedding just because he visited the girl’s parents and saw her father washing plates and the mother was even shouting at him to hurry up and finish.”

The viral story has split opinions online. Some users supported the man’s decision, believing it was a sign of what his future with his fiancée could look like. Others criticized the groom-to-be, calling his decision immature and shallow. The debate continues to rage online, with people on both sides of the issue. Whether it was a valid reason to call off a wedding or a sign of immaturity, one thing is for sure: this story is a conversation starter.

Netizens’ Reactions

  • @Ikopima09: “I respect his decision to be very honest coz the daughter might want to follow her mom footsteps.”
  • @Dazyling Queeen: “Seriously? Cancelling a wedding over something so normal shows shallow values. Family life isn’t all glamour, it’s reality.”
  • @Rukksssst: “This not normal at all this shows that the mother is in control of the house the father has no say in that house.”
  • @Eneore14h: “That’s wild, canceling marriage over household dynamics shows immaturity more than genuine concern.”
  • @lilyjoelily: “He was never interested in the marrying her, he’s scared of dishwashing, just know he will be scared of taking responsibility.”
  • @Daffydre24h: “Seems like a hasty call-dishwashing doesn’t define a marriage! Cultural norms evolve, and flexibility matters more.”
  • @Yemmmmie_: “Well charity begins at home, He did the right thing cos charity begins at home.”
  • @FowobiofLagos: “Bruh… if washed plates scare him, marriage chores would finish him.”
  • @winnifred2424_: “That’s a valid reason to me in all honesty cause why on a earth will the head of the family be seeing doing such.”
  • @BringingOn7: “Guess he didn’t want to sign up for that kind of dynamic in the family Either way, better to find out now than later.”
