Enugu, the Coal City State, has received resounding commendations from lawyers across the country who converged for the 2025 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference (AGC). Participants described the city as “the cleanest, safest, and one of the most organized in Nigeria” following a week-long stay that showcased the state’s infrastructure, tourism, and hospitality.

Jungle-Journalist.Com gathered that the conference, which was originally slated to hold in Port Harcourt but moved to Enugu within just four months of preparation, turned out to be a resounding success. Many of the over 16,000 delegates expressed surprise at the transformation of the city under Governor Peter Mbah, praising both the environment and the level of security.
Speaking with journalists, Abuja-based lawyer Stephen Medaiyedu said the experience surpassed expectations:
“The infrastructure is fantastic, the transport system is well organised, and security was very assuring. None of us had any reason to be afraid throughout our stay. The hospitality of the people was exceptional, and the sightseeing—Milliken Hill, Ngwo Pine Forest, and the National Museum—added great value. I must commend Governor Mbah for making this possible.”
Similarly, Samir Mohammed Adamu from Bauchi State described Enugu as one of the most serene and beautiful cities in the country.
“We thank the governor for granting us access to tourist sites and ensuring our comfort. The city is green, peaceful, and its people are genuinely hospitable. Many of us have never experienced the South East like this before,” he noted.
For Ozor Nnadume Awforkansi, a member of the NBA from Ezeagu Branch, the conference has permanently repositioned Enugu as a prime destination for national events.
“Many of our colleagues confessed that if they had known Enugu was this safe and beautiful, they would have long chosen it for their vacations. What we see today was made possible by the present administration. Before now, there was no functioning International Conference Center, but Governor Mbah completed it and made this possible,” Awforkansi told Jungle-Journalist.Com.
Tourism stakeholders also seized the opportunity to highlight ongoing government investments. Wilson Uche Ugwe, Vice President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), said showcasing Enugu to legal practitioners was the best advert for the state’s tourism sector.
“The governor has already mapped out over ₦13 billion for tourism development. With infrastructure like CNG buses, new transport terminals, and Enugu Air, the city is fast becoming a model for others. Our visitors’ testimonies prove that Enugu is open for both tourism and investment,” Ugwe explained.
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Ugochi Madueke, told Jungle-Journalist.Com that her ministry ensured delegates tasted the richness of Enugu’s cuisine—okpa, abacha, achicha, and fresh palm wine—while also touring cultural heritage sites.
She revealed that more projects are underway to position Enugu as Nigeria’s top tourism hub:
“We are building the first-ever zipline in the country, along with the 600 Steps to Tranquility leading to a breathtaking waterfall. A rotunda is also in the works. By the time NBA returns to Enugu, the city would have even more attractions.”
