The fortunes of the main opposition party in Enugu state, the Labour Party (LP,) have continued to dwindle as two more legislators elected under the platform of the party on Thursday dumped the party for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The two defectors were Hon. Chidi Obetta, a House of Representative member representing Nsukka and Igbo Eze South federal constituency in Enugu state and the Enugu State House of Assembly member representing Nsukka West state constituency, Hon. Malachy Onyechi.
Just yesterday, Wednesday, another House of Representatives member representing Igbo-Eze North and Udenu federal constituency, Hon. Dennis Agbo, bid farewell to LP as well.
LP fortunes began to nosedive since the former governorship candidate in the 2023 governorship election, Hon. Chijoke Edeoga dumped LP and returned to PDP.
The earlier decamping of six House of Assembly members from LP had started tottering the party in the state.
Less than 24 hours after Hon Dennis Agbo dumped LP for PDP, Hon Obetta followed suit, a situation that sounded like a death knell for the main opposition party.
At the time of filing this report, it was gathered that the new entrants into the PDP were being received by the leadership of the party in grand style at their secretariat.
