President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the decentralisation of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, into six new regional campuses across the country.

The decision, confirmed on Tuesday by Jungle-Journalist.Com, marks a major shift in federal aviation policy and is being described as a move to improve access and regional balance.

The new flight map spreads aviation training across the six geopolitical zones:

• Akure – Southwest
• Osubi (Delta State) – South-South
• Ebonyi – Southeast
• Ilorin – North Central
• Yola – North-East
• Zaria – North-West (remains the headquarters)

A budget of ₦3.68 billion has been earmarked for the expansion. Supporters argue that it will democratise aviation education and create economic opportunities, while critics warn it could weaken NCAT’s legacy and complicate logistics.

“This is not just about aviation—it’s about power, visibility, and federal presence,” one analyst noted. “Each zone now has a stake in the skies.”

Governors in the selected states have welcomed the news, promising to support with infrastructure and jobs. Aviation stakeholders, however, say they will be monitoring how the new campuses are staffed and equipped.

With the move, Nigeria’s aviation training will no longer be confined to Zaria alone. The country’s airspace ambitions are being redrawn—not just on maps, but in the minds of a new generation of aviators.
