Chief (Dr.) Emeka Charles Kalu has challenged Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s recent claim that the Abia North Senate seat “belongs to him until he is done,” describing it as undemocratic, arrogant, and disrespectful to the people of the zone.
In a strongly worded statement made available to Jungle Journalist on Wednesday, Chief Kalu — Chairman of the ECK Foundation and prominent political leader from Abia State — said the comment by the former governor insults the collective will of Ndi Abia North, who alone possess the constitutional right to choose their representatives.
“The Senate seat for Abia North belongs to the people — not to any man, family, or political dynasty. Power flows from the people, and no amount of entitlement or boastful rhetoric can override the sovereign rights of the electorate,” he stated.
He stressed that while Senator Kalu has every right to pursue his ambition, he must respect the principles of open contest, fairness, and accountability that define true democracy. According to Chief Kalu, the 2027 general elections will be about competence, integrity, and service delivery, not personal ownership.
“Abia North deserves fresh ideas, purposeful leadership, and a voice that speaks truth to power — not recycled arrogance disguised as experience,” he added.
Chief Emeka-Kalu, in challenging Orji-Kalu’s claim reaffirmed his commitment to good governance, vowing to stand for the progress of Abia North and the transformation of Abia State.
“Let every aspirant come to the field; the people will decide, not one man’s declaration. In 2027, Abia North will choose progress over pride,” he concluded.
He further urged Abia North constituents to remain vigilant and united, stressing that true democracy thrives when citizens defend their rights and reject any form of political domination or intimidation.
Chief Kalu, it would be noted, had dedicated his life to improving the lives of his people of Abia North where he hailed from and those from other areas in numerous ways, including sponsorships, scholarships, charitable giving and people’s empowerment, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, or belief.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, all eyes are on Abia North and the potential emergence of Chief Emeka Kalu as a leading figure in the nation’s legislative body.
